Back to School Foundation:

Due to a lack of funding the Back to School Foundation is in the unfortunate position of potentially having to close their doors, they are in urgent need of funds to support the ongoing operational costs of USD3,300 per month (this covers teachers wages, rent on the building and general school supplies).

The back to school foundation enables children from the streets and very poor families who have been out of the school system for more than 2 years to complete their education.  Their current enrollment is 91 children from grades 1 through 8.

Special School No 6:

Master’s Peace Foundation are very proud to sponsor the Directors of Special School No 6 for their attendance at the Minneapolis Conference “Closing the Gap”, (this conference is specifically designed as an education tool for teachers/people who work with special needs children, they are particularly focused this year on assistive technology resources for children & adults with special needs, it also give the opportunity to network with others who are in similar teaching situations) we know that they will gain a lot of knowledge from this conference and do their best to disseminate it to other special schools within Romania on their return.

Special School No 6 is located in the 6th district of Bucharest.  It is the largest school for mentally & physically disabled children in Bucharest, supporting over 200 children.

Children’s Hospital:

Marian

Marian was a little 9-year-old patient in floor 5 - the oncology ward in budimex children’s hospital. My memory/ picture of Marian is of a smiling-faced and a gentle boy, knocking on Sister Aloysius door and entering shyly holding the hand of smaller patient and always with a request for toy or book for that little companion, never for himself! I have never met a more unselfish child - always thinking of others even requesting pampers for a baby downstairs!

Another picture of Marian, which is indelibly imprinted on my mind, is of total joy he expressed when he, with others, was taken out (sponsored by you and your team) for boat ride or fun and meal in a park. "Whoopee" was his shout when he heard of the planned trip. Then his excitement was boundless when he boarded the boat.

For the trip he raced to find a swing. At the out-door restaurant where we ordered a meal for all, a carpet had been put on the ground. Marian could not resist the call to do a few cartwheels turns on that before sitting down to eat! The food was relished by all but a funny scene took place. When fresh fruit salad appeared for dessert, Marian looked across the table "apologetically". He said not realizing that the lovely bowl held only fruit salad (coming from a poor he never seen fruit salad before).

Marian’s story is a story of the many children I have met in Budimex Hospital. Unfortunately, for Marian and for others, I have to use past tense even their memory is so present in my mind and in my heart.

Marian looked across the table and “Apologetically” said, sorry I do not like soup again, he said not realizing that the lovely bowl held only fruit salad.
